In the academic year 2011-12, Sherborne was able to welcome our first Foundation Fellows from Princeton thanks to the generosity of Old Shirburnians and other supporters of the Foundation. Since then:
In September 2016 we welcomed Carl Einarson from Savannah College of Art and Design, Georgia as a post graduate in TV and film.
In September 2014, we welcomed Bryan Pannill and Ben Kalinsky (pictured above) to Sherborne to teach and assist in the History and English departments for the year, and also join in with many other aspects of co-curricular life here at the School.
In September 2013, our third pair of Fellows Amelia Bensch-Schaus and Reid Fritz (pictured right) joined the School for a year. Reid worked with both the Biology and Politics departments, and Amelia joined the Classics department.
In 2012-13, Colleen Kent and Michael Weylandt (pictured below) joined Sherborne for a year also from Princeton. Michael says:
"Over my year as a Foundation Fellow, I've tried to introduce my students to the wide applicability of mathematical thought, drawing on my own experience as a scientific researcher, financial trader, and programmer. Few of them are likely to become mathematicians themselves, but I hope that all of them learned new ways to engage their studies and, more importantly, problems in any field they may choose to pursue. There's great beauty and power in the fact that the same mathematics describes the evolution of financial markets and the swirling of milk in a tea cup -- hopefully I've given them a glimpse of it."
The School recruits graduates who can, first and foremost, have an impact through their academic calibre and flair as well as enthusiasm for their subject. In addition, they bring coaching skills to either a cultural or sporting area of the School. We aim to bring in these assistants from top universities around the world and offer them a one year contract with the School. The Fellows live in shared School accommodation to ensure their enthusiasm can also rub off on other staff, and also ensure they are on hand to make the most of their time at Sherborne.
We are aiming to fund one Fellow in 2017-18 and are therefore seeking £27,000 this academic year.
