For some years astronomy has formed part of the non academic interests of a number of boys at Sherborne. Since Ben Ryder's arrival as Head of Physics in 2005, this interest has grown substantially.

The Foundation has been able to help Ben's work in this area with the purchase of a new portable telescope that can be used both on site and in the field thanks to our supporters.

Ben Ryder (pictured left taking delivery of the telescope) says

"For some time, students have been asking me if they can do practical work when they study astronomy. This telescope, linked with powerful image processing software on computers in the department, gives students the chance to perform their own experimental work, or perhaps make a discovery of their own"
