| Boarding Houses computer network |
|
In any school with eight boarding houses spread about the town, the problem of modern computer networks is largely a matter of logistics. How many roads is one willing to dig up, and at what cost, to integrate every part of the School into both the World Wide Web and the School's own intranet? Following advice, the Foundation installed radio receivers in "line of sight" of each other across Sherborne which act as booster signals for the School's internet and intranet networks, allowing every boarding house to install work stations for the pupils. Using the work stations and printers provided by the Foundation, boys can now research their homework on the World-wide web, use e-mail and use the School's intranet resources when required Whilst it is still the Foundation's aim to have every boy able to plug in to the network wherever he may be within the School, this cost-effective and non-intrusive solution is an excellent interim measure.
