Bursaries

003SchoolLife2011We would like to thank all of our generous donors for their support of the Foundation's bursary programme which has made it possible to fund six boys through Sherborne already, with another currently in the School.

Please click here to see a short film about three of those boys.

Please click here to hear more from two Foundation bursary recipients, Oliver Cooper (g, 2007) and Adam Ferris (d, 2008) about their Sherborne experience.

Bow Society - Back to School Event
Bow Society members (those who have kindly pledged to leave a gift to the School in their Will) are being invited back to Sherborne on Saturday 12th November for a chance to sit in on some lessons and witness what life is like in the classroom for today's boys.

Lessons will be followed by lunch and the opportunity to watch a 1st XV match against Bryanston.

We hope to see many members and their guests back in School for what promises to be a most enjoyable day.  Please contact Stephanie on 01935 810554 for further details.

Derrill Allatt
We are sad to report the unexpected death of a Foundation Trustee, Derrill Allatt on 7th July 2011.

Derrill_2Derrill Allatt  1954-2011

(Foundation Trustee 2006-2011)

Derrill joined the Foundation Board in February 2006 who gave great support to all projects relating to Sherborne but most notably the academic and musical projects. He also had a keen eye for the financial aspects of the Foundation and was a great sounding board for new ideas.

Derrill attended Sherborne from 1967 to 1972 and was a member of School House. He was the winner of the Francis Iles English prize. He went on to read History at Emmanuel College, Cambridge before pursuing his highly successful career in finance in 1982.

He was not only a keen supporter of Sherborne but also of Cambridge and the arts in London and often would help us by keeping us informed of innovative ideas being used by them.

He will certainly be missed by all who knew him well.

Telephone Campaign 2011

IMG_9865Thanks to the generosity of so many OS during the telephone campaign, over £40,000 has been pledged to support the Foundation's Annual Fund.  We are incredibly lucky to have such supportive old boys.

This year, donations are being made to support the long-term bursary programme, alongside the travel and tour bursary fund, the hardship fund and the sports coaching fund - all of which will help to ensure that Sherborne remains at the cutting edge of boys' boarding education in the UK.

During July, we ran a telephone canvass with recent leavers from the School calling Old Shirburnians.  This year, a generous donor agreed to match donations made during the telephone canvass £1 for £1 so that all gifts are worth double to the Foundation at no extra cost to the donor (and that's even before Gift Aid).

Old Shirburnians were sent a letter with further information prior to the call, and a copy of the leaflet is available to download, by clicking here, for your information.

They greatly enjoyed speaking with almost 700 Old Shirburnians.  Thank you for your generous support.
